What motivates me?

“You gotta find a way to survive ‘cos they win when your soul dies.” – Tupac Shakur

At some point in my life I came to the conclusion that I have no choice but to keep on going until I get to where I want to be, and since that day, that’s all I’ve been doing.

What keeps me going is the fact that no matter how bad my situation in life may get, I know that one day it will get better. If I work hard now, one day my hard work will pay off – I’d be able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labour.

I don’t have a bad life, but it hasn’t been easy. God, my friends, family and my dreams have kept me going.

And of course, MUSIC has had a big impact on my life. It truly has kept me going through the toughest times in my life.

In my opinion, once you’ve decided where you want to end up one day and what kind of lifestyle you want to lead, you’ll keep going until you get there.

Song for the day :)

I grew up listening to Des’ree, I remember my aunt playing her music quite often.

Today I heard this song and it made me smile. The lyrics are really inspiring.

“Listen as your day unfolds, challenge what the future holds.Try and keep your head up to the sky. Lovers, they may cause you tears. Go ahead release your fears, stand up and be counted. Don’t be ashamed to cry.”

Have a listen. Enjoy!

Mainstream versus Alternative versus – WHO CARES?!

I don’t know if it’s a recent thing or if it’s always been happening, but I just noticed it now… there seems to be all of this controversy surrounding people and their tastes for music. Seriously? Is this going to become a problem now too?

Isn’t it enough that we have to try to get through a normal day without being judged on what we wear, who we’re with and who we know? Now one has to be afraid to like a genre of music at the risk of them “following the crowd” or “trying too hard to be different”.

NO! This is not on. Yes, it’s annoying when a genre of music catches on because (like with everything in life) you get the superficial fans that just follow the crowd pretending to like what they’re listening to. But who are we to judge? (Isn’t judging someone else being superficial?)

This entire mainstream versus alternative/ commercial versus underground crap is so unnecessary. There are so many good genres of music out there. Why do we have to choose ONE?

The Sound of One Clapping

The sound of one clapping is the sound of celebration. It’s the sound of achievement, greatness and accomplishment.

It is a glorious sound which travels to the very core. Across the world we clap when we sing and dance, when we congratulate and cheer. Clapping is positive. The sound of one clapping is magnificent, it is happy.

Disparate Youth – Santigold

Anda and meeeee

Recently one of my besties Anda sent a song to me and harassed me to listen to it (she loves doing that). As usual, I complained and procrastinated but eventually I got round to listening to it (and as usual I ended up liking it).

She said the song inspired her and well, it inspired me too. It’s just a real feel good tune I guess.

I especially like the song because it urges us to fight for what we believe in and pursue our dreams no matter what anyone thinks! I had to share it 🙂

Take a listen…
