It is a poor idea to lie to yourself

We’ve all lied before, whether it was about something small or something big – the fact remains that we’ve all lied to someone in our life time. I have regretted lying many times; it never ends well. But the lies I regret most are the ones I have told myself. Far too many times I have missed out on opportunities or got stuck in bad situations because I lied to myself.

There’s nothing worse than lying to yourself because you only end up hurting yourself. We fear the truth, when in actual fact it’s our own lies we should fear. The lies we tell ourselves have the ability to hold us back in life.

Remember, in order to be able to love and respect others you need to be able to love and respect yourself first; and you can’t do that if you can’t even be honest with yourself. Honesty is always the best policy; the truth is way less complicated than the consequences of a lie. Love yourself enough to be honest with yourself.

How do you step from the top of a 100-foot pole?

Life is filled with risks. I’d even go as far as to say life is a risk. If you never take any risks in life you’ll miss out on the thrill of the ride. We fear the unknown because we can’t control it. We feel vulnerable and exposed, scared that things might go terribly wrong.

There is a lesson to be learnt in every failure, in every risk we take. Going through life trying to maintain a balance is hard enough. Be brave and follow your heart – believe that no matter what the outcome, you’ll come out okay.

So how do you step off a 100-foot pole? You close your eyes, take a deep breath and you take a leap of faith.

We are afraid of the wrong things.

We are afraid to be ourselves. We go through life cautiously because we are afraid of what others think. It’s common knowledge; people do things they don’t really want to do to impress other people. Peer pressure? Its something you experience throughout your life and it’s probably never going to go away.

The truth is, no one wants to be looked down upon or judged by others. As much as we say we don’t care, we do. Somebody famous once said, “no man is an island unto himself”,  and it’s true.

We cut, copy, paste and edit parts of ourselves in order to fit in and be accepted, but that’s not how it should be.

A word to the wise, in life we shouldn’t be afraid of being ourselves because of what others think. Instead, we should be afraid of losing ourselves in the process of fearing what others think.
